Why work towards a better birth?

TRIGGER WARNING FOR BIRTH TRAUMA

Most people don’t talk about or even begin to understand the impact that childbirth has on them. I believe that as women, in pregnancy and particularly childbirth, we are cracked open to our deepest core. My belief is that this ‘cracking open’ has a purpose. The purpose of this is to allow us to access our deepest power.

For many women, this is the case. They connect with the deepest power they never knew they had, they birth their babies, and claim this rite of passage. They walk into motherhood knowing that they were built for this, knowing that they are a superhuman Goddess who has claimed the right to stand on the throne for her family, a strong, deep-rooted centre. This, in my opinion, is what birth was meant to do for women: help them to know just how incredible they are, so that they can be this for their families, strong, rooted, and lead them in love.

For many, many women, this is regrettably not the case. Whilst they are cracked open to access this power, they are also left incredibly vulnerable, more vulnerable than they have ever been in their lives. They are split open, deep to their core. What this means is not only could they potentially access this power, but there is also the potential for deep, deep wounding.

If a woman is inhibited from accessing her power at this potentially transformative time, then she is wounded. She becomes disconnected from her nature, from who she was born to be. The hurt is deep, so deep it’s almost intangible, but it shakes the very ground she stands on, the bones of her being. Instead of stepping into motherhood from the elevated throne that she should be on, she loses her sense of self-worth, her ability to understand who she really is, and she becomes a victim. Her ability to mother instinctively is interrupted, often irreparably.

This is my Why.

The reason I support women to have their best birthing experience possible is simply so that they step through this rite of passage that is childbirth a more elevated version of themselves. It is my belief that if women have access to this deep power, this deep knowing at this time, and become intrinsically woven into their nature, who it is that they truly are, then everyone benefits.

The woman herself takes control of her life, her health, her family, and leads with love. Her child benefits through a deep, loving bond. Her partner benefits, as instead of her being ‘shaking’, ‘wounded’, and having a sense of being ‘broken’, she is strong, sure, and full of love. This strong centre lasts, often a lifetime. It goes on to affect her outer family circle, her friends, her community, and on and on it goes as she steps more and more into her power and purpose in life.

This is what I want for women, families, and the world.

You see, childbirth is not a passing day, a memory that will fade. It gets in your bones, builds or breaks the ground that you stand on. Not many people will tell you this truth, but I want you to know, so that you can do all you can to make this the best you can.
